Where We Come From
We Still Get Excited About Wire Wrap Guns.
Before fiber. Before IP. Before anyone said "the cloud" — there was tip and ring. There was a Strowger switch clicking through its rotary sequence to connect two voices across copper. There were linemen descending into manholes with a flashlight and a splice kit, doing work that most people never thought about and couldn't live without.
We love that world. We talk about it. We collect the stories. Wire wrap guns, 66-blocks, POTS lines, cross-connect frames, the smell of a central office — these aren't just history to us. They're the foundation everything we do is built on. The discipline, the precision, the respect for the signal — it all started there.
Tip is positive. Ring is negative. The phone rings because of a 90-volt AC signal riding on top of 48 volts DC. That's not trivia. That's the origin story of every network we build today. We carry that knowledge forward — and we're proud of it.
The original precision termination tool. Wrap a wire around a post tight enough and it's gas-tight — better than a solder joint. Old-school and still right.
The first automatic telephone exchange. A rotary electromechanical switch that clicked and stepped its way to the right connection — no operator needed. Pure mechanical genius.
The original two-wire circuit. Tip is positive, ring is negative — named for the tip and ring of a phone plug. Every modern telecom signal traces its lineage back to this pair.
Plain Old Telephone Service. 48 volts DC on the line, 90 volts AC to ring the bell. Simple, reliable, and the backbone of voice communication for over a century.
The entrance to the underground plant — conduit, splice cases, and cable runs that nobody sees but everybody depends on. We've been in those holes. We respect what's down there.
The original patch panel. Punch down your pairs, bridge your connections, and trace every circuit by hand. The discipline of a clean 66-block is the same discipline we bring to every rack we build today.
